Best Exhibition: Mark Titchner

mtMark Titchner’s installation, sculpture and light boxes took over the Baltic in true Titchner style.
Titchner’s work takes phrases from the world around us, particularly pop clichés from songs, advertising slogans, utopian statements from political manifestos and social theories.
Titchner’s work is very evocative and this exhibition was no exception.  It had an immediate impact on the viewer when they entered the gallery space.
It is a distinct experience when faced with Titchner’s installation which will leave you questioning the meaning behind the information modern society surrounds us with.
This is an exhibition that has stayed in the minds of many of the Pulp writers and was an exhibition that we felt stood out from the rest.

The play was written by Lee Hall, also known for his script Billy Elliot, and directed by Max Roberts. The play is a humorous, thoughtful, and timely look at what Art, Class and Politics mean to the ordinary people of the North East.
The Pitman Painters was an instant success and went on to win ‘Performance of the Year’ at The Journal’s 2007 Culture Awards.
After its success The Pitmen Painters returned to Live Theatre for four weeks and will soon be making its way to the National Theatre in London.
