3volution

This summer the Evolution Festival returns, some may note it aint free anymore, hence the slight adjustment to the name. It’s now called ‘3volution’….Freevolution sounds better if you ask me. However they are supporting Water Aid so it’s all for a good cause! There are events all over Newcastle this weekend, from ‘The Cluny’ to ‘Digital’, including obviously the after show party which is previewed below. It’s cheap, it’s big, and, whether you’re impressed with the line up or not, it’s a chance to get out there and have loads of fun with loads of people…so be grateful (Jimmy!).

3volution Afterparty

DESPITE HAVING a ticket sitting under my pillow, and despite the lack of concern that I have an exam the next day, I’m not really excited about 3volution. Formally freevolution, and costing £Free, the clever bigwigs have renamed it to illustrate the new price. For £3 you can meander down to the Quayside and watch The Streets’ Mike Skinner hit some duff notes; you can see Duffy and Kate Nash warbling or you could maybe watch Crystal Castles perform their fourth Newcastle show in the last 7 months. The festival does, however, look set to give some artists a slightly more prominent profile in the north; Hercules and Love Affair and Does It Offend You, Yeah instantly spring to mind. It is, in fact, the other big music event on the same day which is discreetly turning heads. As part of the 3volution after party, Digital have got The Count & Sinden (Live no less!) playing what will be a phenomenal set. Its only £7.50 and you can party till 3.30! But if that still doesn’t convince you, then head to Digital the night before (Sunday 25th May) and you can see Armand Van Helden and Audiobullys and CagedBaby. At Digital! I’m weeing slightly just thinking about it, and I definitely won’t worry about missing Reverend and the Makers if I haven’t had enough sleep from the night before!
