I think the best option is to do a combination of both extra-curricular and degree work. It's good to get involved in extracurricular activities but you shouldn't let your degree suffer because of it. The main point of being at University is to get a degree.
Michael Oliver, 21. 3rd Year Media Communication and Cultural Studies

The only reason I came to this University was for my degree program, although I'm on the committee for squash I wouldn't say is more important and I wouldn't put it before my degree
John Ward, 20. 2nd Year Business accounting and Finance

To me my degree is more important than doing other activities, however I'm from Newcastle and so am used to the city and what it has to offer. I think people from outside the city may find it useful to get used to the city.
Joanne Lee, 22. 1st Year English Literature and Language

I value the experience because at the end of the day I'm not going to be an academic and I will need the experience in the future. I think the University experience would be pretty dull if you didn't do extracurricular activities.
Chris Kay, 21. 3rd Year English Literature

I think that although our experience is an important part of being a student, we are all here to get a degree so that is obviously the most important part of being at University.
Joe Currin, 20. 2nd Year Media Communications and Cultural Studies

I find my course is too hardcore for extracurricular activities as I’m in University 9-5 and have to work in speech clinics as well.
Teds, 21. 2nd Year Speech and Language Science
